In most of the City's plans, a minimum of five years of service is necessary to earn a pension. A minimum of ten years is needed for teachers hired after December 10, 2009. The vested pension is payable only after the employee reaches a requisite payability age or date, which differs according to pension plans

You are considered vested when you have completed enough credited service to receive a reduced retirement allowance. Vested members would become eligible to retire upon meeting the applicable age requirements.
